What’s up guys! Welcome back to The Athlete Angle. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
We’re jumping back into my conversation with one of my best friends Katlyn Holmes. We continue to discuss what building a foundation looks like, why it is important to be your authentic self and how finding good community is a continuous journey. Katlyn gives us insight on how she manages her freedom as an adult post sport and what it looks like to maintain balance in her life. We talk about how to build grace into your life, especially during the first few years of retirement and the importance of perspective in the process.
My favorite quote from Katlyn is this:
“…I love photography and a lot of the reason I don’t do that… anymore is because of comparison….just start, just start and just do it… really just don't let it steal your joy.”

What’s up guys! Happy Holidays! Welcome back to The Athlete Angle. Today we’re chatting with one of my best friends, Katlyn Holmes. Katlyn was a collegiate softball player recruited at the top of her class. She was the starting pitcher and broke records at her high school. Colleges started recruiting her in middle school! Unreal. We dive into her origin story and what it was like to have her identity associated with softball at such a young age. We discuss Katlyn’s journey on separating her identity from her performance, (which is ingrained in us as athletes) and how she began to rewire her mind to think differently about her identity outside of softball. Stick around for part 2 of our conversation next week we continue to discuss the challenges of creating an identity outside of your sport, what to do with the freedom that comes with retirement and lots more!

What’s up guys! Welcome back to another episode of The Athlete Angle.
I had the privilege to talk with former pro basketball player and fellow Gator, Patric Young. Patric and I talked about the importance of making friends outside of your team while you’re still in school and how this can help you gain perspective about the world outside of your sport.
We covered how the injuries he endured while he was playing helped redefine his priorities in life outside of basketball, and what he did when he decided to retire.
One of those things to pay attention to was his mindset coming into this transition.
One of his quotes that I thought was os good and such a good reminder is that “there is no such thing as an insignificant season.”
We covered how treating people well will pay dividends for you later, the kind of mindset he had walking into a job for the first time post sport, and the hallmarks of good community.

What’s up guys, welcome back to another episode of The Athlete Angle. This week we’re diving into Cory Camp's origin story. We talked about when he discovered his passion for swimming, the dreams he had from himself and the challenges he faced in his career and in retirement.
We get into how his success in the pool led to a lack of confidence outside of the pool and his struggle to identify himself as more than a swimmer.
The challenges did not stop there. When Cory retired he struggled with motivation and shares how he found a way to learn more about himself and take advantage of The Flow.

What’s up guys! Welcome back to another episode of The Athlete Angle. I caught up with my friend and Athlete Transition Coach, Taj Dashaun.
If you’re looking for some tangible advice on how to transition well post sport, save this episode!
Taj walks us through his mindset going into college football at Stony Brook University, how he managed his unmet goals…or didn’t.
We dug deep into who he was when he retired and the action he took to start building a life outside football.
Probably my favorite part of this episode is our conversation around cultivating clarity and chipping away at the uncertainty of life. I think the most interesting part is our convo around starting over and changing our mindset to view this season of transition as discovery rather than looking at it through a pessimistic lens.
Stay to listen to the end! Taj surprises me with questions about my story and challenges post soccer.

What’s up guys!
Thanks for joining me for the first episode of the Athlete Angle! I am welcoming  on a very special guest, Katie Spada.
She is the owner of Spada Strong Nutrition which is a nutrition coaching business that teaches former athletes how to fuel for life after sports. She holds a master’s degree in Nutrition fromNortheastern University with a concentration in Sports and Fitness. Katie competed as an elitelevel synchronized swimmer on the national team and collegiate level before retiring andpursuing her career as a dietitian.
I had the privilege to talk to Katie about her time as a collegiate athlete and the impact that had on her career as a dietitian. We discuss the narrative of body image in sports, why we struggle with body changes post sport and how to separate our worth from the way our body looks. We switched gears and discussed how to make guilt free food choices that both support our nutritional needs and still allow us to enjoy food—like the chocolate covered bananas in my freezer right now! Lastly, Katie shared some simple yet powerful advice that helped her to transition into life after sports. Let’s dive in!
